Who We Are

American Volunteer Center for Immigrants, AVC, was established as a charitable 501(c)(3) corporation under Section 402 of the not-for-profit on April 2nd, 2021 in the State of New York.  AVC coordinates immigration lawyers, CPAs, international social workers, missionaries, and volunteers to help people around the world affected by various humanitarian crises to survive, recover and rebuild their lives.

Founder, Benjamin H. Kim, has successfully assisted thousands of families obtain temporary non-immigrant visas, permanent immigrant workers visas for the past thirty years as a senior paralegal in the New York City law offices of Kera & Graubard and Mark S. Merado.

What We Do

AVC is a full service organization assisting refugees obtain Travel Permits to enter the US lawfully and Work Permits called “Employment Authorization Documents” (EAD) on behalf of refugees from eligible countries designated by US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). Note there are 2 categories:

  • Humanitarian Parole Program for refugees outside the USA: Ukraine, Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua and Venezuela.

  • Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for “out of status” refugees in the USA: Afghanistan, Burma, Cameroon, El Salvador, Ethiopia, Haiti, Honduras, Nepal, Nicaragua, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, Syria, Ukraine, Venezuela, Yemen.

Training & Preparation

AVC Job Training Center facilitates intensive training for refugees to become qualified entry-level healthcare workers- Certified Caregiver and Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) through training programs in their current country. After 4 to 12 week courses, participants are ready for job placement in the United States as professional healthcare workers with valid, legal work permit.

    • Professional healthcare worker with more than 2 years of work experience in healthcare

    • High fluency in English required

    • College graduate + driver’s license preferred

    • Professional healthcare worker with some experience

    • Some fluency in English required

    • High school diploma, or GED required

    • Non healthcare worker with unrelated professional experience

    • Low fluency in English

    • High school diploma, or GED required
